Chadwick Boseman’s brother Kevin celebrates two years in remission from cancer

Less than two months after Chadwick Boseman’s death from cancer, the actor’s older brother Kevin is celebrating two years of being in remission.

Kevin, 48, announced the news earlier this month in his Instagram Story, according to screenshots from The Shade Room.

“Today marks my official two-year remission,” wrote Kevin, a New York-based dancer and choreographer. “I was diagnosed with cancer in 2018 and underwent for rounds of chemotherapy.”

He continued, “I wanted to share because while it’s been a year of profound loss and tragedy for so many of us, this is good news. Something to smile about. Something to shout about.”

“Black Panther” star Chadwick Boseman died on Aug. 28 at the age of 43. Diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, he battled the disease privately for four years. He worked on “Marshall,” “Da 5 Bloods” and the forthcoming film “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” “during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy,” his team wrote on social media at the time of his death.

“I hope you’re smiling and shouting with me,” Kevin wrote in his health update. “Cancer is something most of us have no control over. We can only control our responses to it, which includes being proactive about our healthcare both physically and [mentally].

“Tomorrow is not promised and early detection saves lives. Health is wealth. True wealth.”

Early in October, Derrick Boseman, Chadwick’s other brother who is a pastor, recalled his final conversation with the star.

“‘Man, I’m in the fourth quarter, and I need you to get me out of the game,’” Derrick said Chadwick told him in August.

“When he told me that, I changed my prayer from, ‘God heal him, God save him,’ to ‘God, let your will be done,’” Derrick said. “And the next day he passed away.”

In September, Chadwick was laid to rest at the Welfare Baptist Church Cemetery in Belton, South Carolina, not far from his hometown of Anderson. It was later revealed that the actor died without a will when his widow, Taylor Simone Ledward, filed a probate case in Los Angeles on Oct. 15. The two, who had been together since 2015, secretly got married before the star’s death, after reportedly getting engaged in October 2019.
