John Legend is mourning the loss of his grandmother, Marjorie Maxine Stephens, who died Tuesday morning at the age of 91.
“We are so grateful for the life she lived, for the love she shared with her many children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and beyond,” the “All of Me” singer, 42, captioned a slideshow on Instagram. “She was the most caring and conscientious grandmother you could imagine.”
Legend shared that his beloved relative was “active and full of curiosity and energy until her final days,” adding that he was happy to have shared very special milestones with her.
He wrote, “She got to travel the world with us, went to my first Grammys. She got to experience the successes of all her offspring.”
“We are sad to lose her but most of all so appreciative of the full, blessed life she lived,” Legend concluded. “May she Rest In Peace after running a great race.”
Comedian Chelsea Handler pointed out Legend’s resemblance to his late grandmother, writing in the comments, “You look like twins! May the force be with her.”
Singer Charlie Puth wrote, “I’m sorry for your loss bro. What a wonderful long life she lived!!! And will continue through your family!”
Several others in the entertainment industry also sent their condolences.
