Country Singer Chely Wright Reveals She Suffered A Stroke

Country singer Chely Wright is opening up about a recent health scare, revealing she suffered a stroke last year, just days after celebrating her 48th birthday.

In a candid Facebook post, the “Single White Female” singer tells fans about what happened one year earlier, on Nov. 1, 2018. It was on that day, after three days of a migraine that wouldn’t go away, she went to a New York City emergency room with her wife, Lauren Blitzer, because she had some concerts coming up and “wanted to get this headache out of the way.”

“The doctor I saw — whom I’d seen before — was troubled by some the symptoms of that day’s headache,” Wright writes. “After a series of diagnostic tests, I was informed that I’d had a stroke. A stroke. I’d just turned 48.”

In hindsight, however, Wright admits that she “sort of knew” that her headache didn’t feel like a typical migraine. “What I had been experiencing with that headache and leading up to that headache was different. I’d even said aloud to myself in the bathroom mirror, ‘Did you have a stroke?'” she recalls.

While Wright doesn’t offer many details about the repercussions of her stroke, she says she’s doing “okay,” but admits “it’s been a long year.”

The reason she’s coming forward, she explains, is “so you all might take a moment to refresh your understanding of stroke and the symptoms of stroke. Pay attention to your body and encourage your loved ones to do the same,” she writes. “Again, I am okay and very grateful to have access to quality medical care. As we all know, not everyone in America has that luxury. We have to fix that.”
