Surprise! Mindy Kaling has a new son.
The star of “The Mindy Project,” 41, secretly gave birth to her second child in September — without ever telling the world she was pregnant.
“I’m telling it for the first time now … I gave birth to a baby boy on September 3,” Kaling announced on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” on Thursday night.
She named her baby boy Spencer.
Little Spencer joins almost 3-year-old sister Katherine, who Kaling said “is a huge fan” of the baby now that she knows he can’t yet take her toys.
Kaling said she was able to keep her pregnancy quiet from the world because “no one saw me” amid the coronavirus pandemic. She also noted that she felt “strange” sharing her happy news during this time.
“There was so much going on, so much heartbreak in the world that it felt strange to go out of my way to shine a light on some giant health information,” she told Colbert.
Kaling hasn’t revealed the father of either Spencer or Katherine. Her “Office” co-star and close pal B.J. Novak is godfather to both children.
When Colbert asked if Novak is involved, as is tradition, in the spiritual development and education of the kids, Kaling joked: “It’s hard because the concept of a godfather is a Christian thing. He’s Jewish, my kids are Hindu, so maybe he was not the right person to pick, actually.”
